Oh wow this hair pin. Where to even start!
 
This piece is entirely hand fabricated out of sterling silver, starting with a large crescent moon base, that I've reticulated the sterling on to mimic the texture of the moon. Reticulation is a process where you repeatedly bring your metal up to temperatures near melting, and watch as the alloys move and cause ripples and textures in the metal. It is quite time (and gas!)  consuming, and no two pieces will ever come out the same.... and it was really fun to do for this piece. 
 
A top the crescent, a central alligator, framed by two elephant ear plants. All hand drawn, sawed, stamped/detailed, and soldered onto their moon home. It was patina'd dark, given highlights on front, but left dark on the reverse side. The pendant attached to a wavey fork made of stamped 8g sterling silver half round wire, perfect to hold your long locks up with this truly unique, functional beauty...
 
The pendant itself measures 2 5/8” wide and 1 3/4" at its tallest point.
The length from the top of the pendant to the base of the pins is 5 1/2" long.
It weighs .93 oz.
