This OOAK bracelet is quite the statement piece. It is made entirely of sterling silver, set on two half round bands, with details where they meet. The back of the pendant beneath the Moss Agate is cut out to allow the sun to shine through the many flowing layers of the stone. Agate is Louisiana's state mineral, although this particular piece is Moss Agate, which did not come from Louisiana, but is the perfect stone to represent the swamp.
Moss Agate finds itself a very useful stone to harness in the swamp. As for locationally beneficial, Moss Agate was considered the most powerful of medicines, healing wounds, clearing out poisons, and protecting against venomous reptiles…something found throughout the swamps. It also is a stone that promotes plant growth and health. The Native American Indians used Moss Agate as a power stone, and it has been successfully used in cloud-busting and aiding the weather patterns to reach ultimate equilibrium. As for a personal totem Moss Agate is extremely beneficial as a body strengthener in times of stress. Its steady energies aid those who feel unstable or ungrounded. It is an excellent stone for convalescing after illness, or in recovery from addictions. It enhances mental concentration, persistence and endurance. It is a stone for new beginnings.
The agate rests in a scalloped bezel, with a shimmering piece of moonstone set at its base. Moonstone (Florida's state stone) is an incredibly powerful stone, one with great connection to women. While it is said to heighten passion when gifted between lovers, it is ultimately a very personal stone. It is a reflection of the person who owns it. It does not add or detract, only shows how it is. This is why the moonstone is said to perceive that which "is". Moonstone is an excellent stone to use in meditation to understand oneself.
Alongside the stones are two hand cut and textured pieces of fern. It is all given a light patina, to give it an antiqued appearance.

The Southwestern Swamp Collection is an ode to the nature and mindset that inspires and drives me. In the simplest terms, an utter and most important connection to the environment around you. I have made myself a home in the swamp lands in New Orleans, Louisiana. Even in the city, nature is reclaiming what man has built, and we are constantly reminded by buildings overgrown in green vines, walls of cemetery tombs with ferns creeping out from every crack. Nature has been before us, and will continue after us. This collection is inspired by a culture who has always been aware of our connection to nature, as well as the nature I've chosen to call home. As with all of my jewelry, from day one until I cease to create, I work with as much found natural material as possible. Whether its disregarded oyster shells (Louisiana's state gemstone), or using impressions of dried fern leaves or naturally shed snakeskin found in the swamp. The only stones from this collection that have been purchased (as will any piece purchased as the collection grows in size) have been locally, from the area where these Louisiana stones are most often found, from family run shops. Support for my environment is the most important principle. That being said, a donation will be made to the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, or another local wetland/wildlife cause, from any pieces sold from this collection at the end of each month.
