The Luna Moth and Dixie Fern Hoops
This listing is for a very special one of a kind set of hoops. They pay homage to the Dixie Fern.
Made of all sterling silver, I hand cut and textured two pieces of fern, designed after the Dixie Fern, to showcase a central setting set with a piece of Luna Moth Wing set under glass, and hugged by two strands of roped wire. The "eye" of the luna moth showcased on each hoop.
Luna moths have been said to represent rebirth, renewal of body and spirit, regeneration, and may even symbolize the soul itself. They speak of our connection to the Feminine, our inner spirit, and our trust in ourselves. I consider these earrings a totem for growth and transformation, and hope the wearer will feel like it showcases their strength.
These elements are set on hoops, with a crescent shaped design, made of 10g round wire, but closed off with a hinged closure of 16g wire to fit more standard ears. Because the wire is still *slightly* larger than standard ear wire, they are best for people with gauged ears or who regularly wear heavy earrings and have some stretch to their standard sized ear hole. The whole piece is given a patina to make the piece look antiqued, and high contrast.
The hoops measure 2 1/2" across and 3" tall from the top of the hook to the bottom of the stone.
They are made of 10g round wire, and have a 16g wire hook closure.
The 'Luna Moth pendant' measures 1 1/4" tall.
As a side note, due to the natural and delicate nature of the moth wing, it is not recommended to wear these hoops underwater. Without thinking I have worn mine swimming and there were no issues, however it is always wise to not press ones luck and allow delicate and treasured pieces to receive only minimal time in the elements.
